Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has decided to share his feelings during this FIFA break. The French forward talked to RMC this Monday and confirmed that he asked PSG to let him leave the club this past summer. Now, French newspaper L’Equipe has published another interview where Mbappe mentions Real Madrid.
“PSG decided not to sell me and I was OK with that decision. I kept playing in August and I didn’t have a problem with that, I’m still playing for a great team in a place where I was and I still am happy. Why did I want to go? I thought my adventure there was over, I wanted to discover a new thing. If I had left this summer it would only have been to join Real Madrid. Leaving was a logical step in my career,” he says.
Even if that sounds like Mbappe is certainly going to sign for Madrid as a free agent, the attacker didn’t want to say as much when asked directly about his future and not about what happened months ago.
“Is my departure confirmed? The truth of yesterday is not the truth of today, nor that of tomorrow. If I had been told that Messi was going to play for PSG, I would not have believed him. So, we don’t know what can happen,” he added.
Mbappe is probably trying to make his next few months a little bit easier by saying that he doesn’t rule out any kind of possibility. These quotes published on the French press are definitely encouraging for Real Madrid, but Mbappe is right when he says that anything can happen in football, so there’s no such thing as certainty.
However, he truly wanted to share his feelings and didn’t mince words. When asked about the possibility of staying with PSG, he was very clear.
“What would make me stay at PSG? We’re far from that, since I wanted to leave last summer. I won’t be a hypocrite and throw a bottle to the sea like “Oh, I don’t know”. This summer, my goal was clear,” he concluded.
