Carvajal and Mendy will likely be back after the FIFA break

Ancelotti could have his two starting wing backs very soon.

Real Madrid defenders Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy will likely be available for the team right after the current FIFA break, when Madrid host Athletic Bilbao. Both Carvajal and Mendy are in the last stage of their recovery and while they might not be ready to start and play 90 minutes until they improve their physical condition, it seems that they should be starting fairly soon.

This is great news for Real Madrid, who have been struggling with their fullbacks so far this season. Neither Carvajal nor Mendy have a very reliable replacement in the current squad, that being the reason why several players like Nacho, Vazquez, Miguel Gutierrez or even Fede Valverde have been given the chance to play as fullbacks.

On paper, Mendy and Carvajal could be ready to feature in El Clasico against Barcelona if they don’t suffer any kind of relapse during their return to the team. Mendy’s status for that game is a bit more questionable though, given that he hasn’t played a competitive match since May 5th and that he will likely need some kind of physical training before being able to play 90 minutes in such an intense game. That’s not the case with Carvajal, who has a better chance of featuring in the XI against Barcelona if his muscle injury keeps healing properly.
