Casemiro will not feature for Brazil in the October international break, meaning he will miss the World Cup Qualifiers against Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay. Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa has already been called in to replace the Real Madrid defensive midfielder. Brazil’s team doctor spoke to the press after the news broke:
“We kept in touch with Real Madrid and the player. We received an examination and medical report from the club, which showed an infectious process in the wisdom tooth with indications for the need of complete rest and no physical training over the next five days ” , Rodrigo Lasmar, via Brazilian outlet Advice.
Brazil leads the South American qualifiers with 24 points after winning all eight of their WQF games thus far. Tite’s men have a six-point advantage over Argentina, in second place. If there was an opportune time for Casemiro to rest for both Real Madrid and Brazil it would be now. The Brazilian midfielder played over 3,900 minutes last season for both club and country, far surpassing the 3,500 minute threshold that usually leads to burn out. Some quality time off, even if it is due to an infection, will be well received. Another long trip back and forth to South America would likely have been detrimental to his long-term form.
