Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez rejoined Real Madrid’s squad during Thursday’s training session and should be ready to face Valencia on Sunday after recovering from their injuries. Toni Kroos will also be back with the team after being suspended for the match against Getafe, so coach Zinedine Zidane will have some of his depth back.
Zidane deployed a 3-4-3 formation against Getafe, a system which worked quite well. However, with Carvajal and Vazquez —and also Kroos— back, the French coach will likely go back to his usual 4-3-3 system. with Carvajal, Nacho, Varane and Mendy on the defensive line.
Real Madrid will need their depth in the coming weeks, as the schedule will get busier once it’s time to face Atalanta in the Champions League’s Round of 16. It will be crucial for Zidane to give some of his starters like Luka Modric or Karim Benzema a breather in the upcoming weeks if he wants them to be on fresh legs later this season.
