Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Red Bull Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecano, who was rumored to be on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time. Bayern football director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the news in an interview with Bild, although the clubs have not published a statement just yet.
Bayern will reportedly pay around €43 million for the signing, a fee Real Madrid were not willing to meet. Upamecano will replace David Alaba, who is going to leave Bayern and seems to be yet another option for Madrid, this time as a free agent.
Los Blancos are looking to add some defenders to the current squad, given that team captain Sergio Ramos has not reached a contract extension with the club just yet and could be leaving in the summer, which could put the team in a tough spot. Sevilla defender Jules Kounde could also be on Madrid’s radar, but Alaba seems to be the most realistic option for them now that Upamecano is no longer a candidate.
