Toni Kroos’ masterful performance against Valencia moved him into second place in Real Madrid’s list of most combined goals and assists. In first place is none other than the leader of the attack in the last three seasons — Karim Benzema has been the undisputable king when it comes to offensive production since Ronaldo left. When ignoring the French striker, Kroos stands out as the player who has contributed the most with two goals and six assists.

Kroos’s six assists also mean he has provided the most passes directly leading to goals for his teammates. On a per minutes basis, Rodrygo and Hazard’s total production outpace the German’s but in general that’s to be expected given the latter plays in a deeper position. Overall however, these stats speak to Kroos’ ability to create chances and how much of an impact he has in this area.

It doesn’t stop there as the underlying stats show that Kroos is creating chances (including those that didn’t result in goals) at a higher rate than anyone else in the entire league this season. Furthermore, going back to 2014-15, the midfielder’s assists outnumber his midfield peers showing how consistent he has been.

Kroos’ goals and assists record this season can in part be attributed to an uptick in his last four games where he has recorded a goal and four assists (five of his eight total contributions). Hopefully this good form continues as Real Madrid enters an important period of the season.
