PSG director Leonardo: “We are in talks with Kylian Mbappe and advancing”—Fabrizio Romano

PSG’s sporting director gives a brief update on contract talks with the Real Madrid target

UEFA Champions League”Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain”

PSG sporting director Leonardo says that contract talks with Kylian Mbappe are progressing well and they should have a decision made soon, according to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano.

One of the last times we spoke on Mbappe’s contract negotiations he was reportedly hesitant in his contract negotiations with the Parisian club. This would be a bit of a contradiction as Leonardo is at least telling the press that talks are going well and there will be some confirmation to follow.

As for what this means for Real Madrid if Mbappe gets locked up for a longer term, he will likely not be joining the club this summer. There’d be a possibility that a transfer is made for Mbappe in 2022, but there’s no guarantee PSG would want to sell unless Mbappe tries to move his way out.

So if we see a contract agreement within the following weeks, Real will likely turn its attention towards another signing. You’d have to imagine the club would push harder for Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

If its true that Real wants to make one big signing this summer, Haaland would fit that criteria perfectly if Dortmund are willing to sell at the right, and most likely considerable, price.

There’s still likely a bit to go in this saga until Mbappe finally puts pen to paper. But Real should be seeing an update on his status soon if talks are truly progressing well between both sides.

Everything is speculation of course based on the dialogue around the players and clubs involved, but we will be watching how this continues to unfold and what this means for Real Madrid.
