Captain and team leader Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid are now close to reaching an agreement over a contract extension for the central defender, whose current deal with the club expires next summer. That’s according to a report published today on MARCA, which indicates that president Florentino Perez and Ramos have been in touch for the last couple of weeks and seem to be close to an understanding.

If that report is accurate, Real Madrid have not changed their last offer, which gave Ramos two options. One, a single-year extension maintaining his current salary. The other, a two-year deal with a 10% decrease in his current wages.

Perez and Ramos still have a good relationship and the agreement seems very close, with a potential announcement in the next few weeks if MARCA’s report is accurate.

Ramos appeared to be ready to leave the club after Madrid’s last offer, but it now seems that the two parts have decided that it’d be better for them to stay together.
