BREAKING: Sergio Ramos set to have surgery to repair his left meniscus

Real Madrid defender and team captain Sergio Ramos is set to have surgery to repair his left meniscus and will miss around six recovering and rehabbing from surgery, according to reports from MARCA, AS and the rest of the Spanish media.

Ramos missed Real Madrid’s last four games because of this injury, but the club never published a medical report on the matter and the defender even managed to train with the rest of the squad earlier this week. However, it seems that the pain on his left knee didn’t go away, so he ultimately decided to have surgery.

Therefore, Ramos will miss the upcoming clash against Atalanta in the Champions League’s Round of 16.

The defender still hasn’t signed a contract extension with the club and his current deal expires next summer, so this is major news considering that he will now be forced to miss an extended period of time. Madrid will likely want to see him back on the pitch before making a decision about his extension as well, so it will be interesting to see how the negotiations between the two parts develop.

Nacho and Militao will compete to replace Ramos in the starting XI while the captain is out.
