Match Preview

Real Madrid face Getafe for this time this season as they play host at the Di Stefano on Tuesday.

Los Blancos are coming off a 2-1 weekend win over Huesca. The club remains in third and tied on points with Barcelona. It also has a single point lead over Sevilla.

Getafe has had a disappointing season and currently sit 13th in the league table. The club hasn’t registered a win in its last four matches. It has drawn once and lost twice in that span since its last victory.

Real Madrid has played well against Getafe in recent history. Los Blancos have not lost to Getafe in their last 13 matches played, with just one result being a draw. Real has also kept a clean sheet in their last four meetings.

Injuries/Suspensions

Real Madrid’s squad is even thinner than it was over the weekend as Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard, Alvaro Odriozola, Eder Militão, Fede Valverde, Lucas Vazquez and Rodrygo are all out on Tuesday. Isco is back in the squad after missing against Huesca, but he is just one of 12 first team players available.

Getafe could be without forward Dario Poveda due to injury.

Toni Kroos will miss the match due to a yellow card suspension. Djene is also serving serving suspension after being red carded against Sevilla.

Potential XIs

Real Madrid

Courtois; Mendy, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Isco; Asensio, Vinicius, Benzema

With no right backs available in the squad and Nacho filling in for Ramos, Ferland Mendy will likely be the one who starts on his opposite side. This means Marcelo is likely to get a start on Tuesday as well.

Isco will likely slot in for the suspended Toni Kroos.

Zidane has very few options off the bench who are senior players, in fact he has just one in Mariano. This means we will likely see some Castilla players sub on such as Marvin.

Getafe

Yañez; Suarez, Etxeita, Chakla, Nyom; Arambarri, Maksimovic, Cucurella; Kubo, Aleña, Mata

Prediction

Real Madrid—Getafe 2-0

This will be a tough match for Real Madrid to keep a clean sheet in comparison to previous matches as the squad is razor thin in depth. That said, Getafe have scored the least amount of goals in La Liga with just 17 scored this season.

This should be a match Los Blancos win despite the lack of available players given Getafe’s anemic offense. The club has also conceded a fair amount of goals so far this season. The meetings between these two clubs are also typically low-scoring affairs.

A win here can prove that Real Madrid can overcome depth and injury issues at least against weaker sides. It would keep them on the right track as they compete with Barcelona in points total.
