Lucas Vazquez has given Real Madrid a contract renewal ultimatum, according to a report from ABC.
The winger feels he has earned a pay-rise; a salary more on par with players like Militao and Jovic — who he has outperformed. Lucas and his camp have requested a three year deal with a 15% increase. A deadline for the end of March has been sent to Real Madrid. On the other side of the table, Real Madrid, are willing to offer three years, but would like to cut Lucas Vazquez’s salary by 10% due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both parties are a long way from reaching an agreement.
Lucas Vazquez as a free agent will have plenty of suitors. AC Milan, Napoli, Leeds, and Everton have all been linked. The winger, turned back-up fullback, has been one of the most important players for Zinedine Zidane this season. With injuries ravaging the squad, Lucas managed 20 consecutive starts and has already amassed over 2,000 minutes this season. Zidane will want to see his trusted soldier stay, but it’s unlikely the club will budge on a renewal for a player who turns 30-year-old in July. If Vazquez’s deadline is held, then the renewal saga will end in a months’ time.
