The Barcelona presidential candidate makes a bold statement

Barcelona presidential nominee and former club president Joan Laporta made a recent statement where he called out Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s first term.

“During my term, I won 59 titles, including two champions, four leagues, a club world championship, a triple and a sextet. We have provoked the resignation of Mr. Florentino Pérez when he saw that his team had become our mascota.”

This is obviously more of a political move as Laporta is a main candidate, along with Victor Font, to replace Josep Bartomeu and he is bringing up his record during his first term as Barcelona president. He served term between 2003 and 2010.

During that term, Florentino Perez of course resigned in 2006. Laporta is clearly being a bit hyperbolic in saying that his performance at Barcelona caused Perez to resign from office.

Should Laporta get the nomination, this could be a preview of some of the rivalry between the two clubs intensifying once again.
