Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez has been one of the pleasant surprises so far this season, earning his spot in coach Zinedine Zidane’s rotation after some brilliant performances as a center-back right when the team needed him and neither Sergio Ramos nor Eder Militao were available.
Nacho talked to Onda Cero last night and reviewed his current season and his career as a Real Madrid player.
“When I was very young I was always hoping to one day play for Real Madrid and now I’ve played more than 200 games for the club and I’m very happy defending its jersey, I hope I can do that for many more years,” said Nacho.
The defender was then asked about a contract extension, given that his current deal expires in the summer of 2022.
“An extension? When the summer comes I will sit down and talk with the coach and the club and we will make the best decision together. It’d be a dream to end my career as a Real Madrid player. Last year I was on the outside looking in but football changes a lot,” he explained.
Nacho has completed some great performances this season and appears to have regained some of his former form.
“I find myself playing with a lot of confidence, settled in. So far, it’s been a very good year for me, I feel myself playing with more confidence than in previous years, I’m very happy,” said the defender.
Nacho was hoping to get the call from the Spanish national team for this FIFA break but it didn’t happen.
“I’m a bit sad, not hurt. I was hoping to maybe go this FIFA break but there are plenty of good players there, I will keep fighting,” concluded Nacho.
