Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy talked to CNEWS while promoting Adidas and explained his feelings during his second season playing for Los Blancos and coach Zinedine Zidane in particular.
“It’s a pleasure to work for Zidane, to be honest. When I arrived here, it was very special to have him as my coach, he pays attention to detail and gives us good advice before, during and after the games,” said Mendy.
The French left-back explained how he’s feeling in Madrid more than a year after moving to the Spanish capital.
“I feel great there, in the city, in the dressing room with my teammates, I’m just very happy in Madrid. It’s the world’s biggest club and we want to win all. At first, I wasn’t really surprised training with my teammates, but later you realize these are the players you were watching on TV years ago, so I realized it a bit later. Then I got used to that feeling and became one with the team,” he added.
The defender concluded the event by saying that he has three big goals for the remainder of the season.
“Winning the Champions League and a second Liga title after the one we conquered last season. Then, I want to be in France’s squad to play the UEFA Euro. First things first, and I have to play well for my club, I want to win as many trophies as possible and then going to the Euro would be wonderful for me, it’s something I’m excited about,” concluded the left-back.
Mendy is now the undisputed starter in Real Madrid’s left-back spot, which obviously increases his chances of making France’s team. If it happens, he would join Raphael Varane, who is a crucial player for Didier Deschamps.
