Atletico de Madrid have decided to hit back at Real Madrid after the complaints from Los Blancos about referee Hernandez Hernandez, who was in charge of Sunday’s Madrid Derby.

“They criticize even the right decisions. Some people are used to having the wind behind them,” tweeted Atleti. Real Madrid’s spokesperson Emilio Butragueño was the man leading Real’s efforts, saying that “once more, Real Madrid were not lucky with Hernandez Hernandez.”

What happened on Sunday is quite unusual, given that the assistant referees at the VAR told Hernandez Hernandez to check the replay on the monitor. Statistically, the main referees tend to change their initial call when that happens, something Hernandez Hernandez didn’t do even after seeing that the ball clearly hit the defender’s hand.

Beef between both clubs on Social Media isn’t common either, but Atleti ultimately decided this was the right time for them to show some pride, even if the call wasn’t as obvious as they suggest.
