Jorge Valdano, the former Real Madrid player, manager, and sporting director, spoke with Spanish radio station, Onda Cero, after Real Madrid’s victory over Liverpool. The eloquent Argentine was asked for his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp’s comments regarding Valdebebas. The Liverpool manager was far from complimentary when talking about the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium both before and after kick-off. “It was strange tonight because of the stadium and the situation, but Anfield is at least a proper stadium - that will be good for us,” Klopp told reporters after the match.

Well, Valdano did not hold back in his response. “Real Madrid do not play at Valdebebas for the competitive advantage. They lose more than they gain with the change of scenery,” Valdano explained.

“When the Santiago Bernabeu is finished, what will look like a training camp will be Anfield.”

Klopp has received criticism for his lack of respect and bizarre excuses following the match. As a cheeky joke, the construction group that built Valdebebas and the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium, sent Jurgen Klopp a small 3-D model of the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. The German manager may have been attempting to deflect pressure and blame from his own squad, but the manner in which he did left a bad taste for all.
