Real Madrid and Karim Benzema are almost set to announce a contract extension for the French striker, one which will keep him in the club at least until the summer of 2023, according to a report from MARCA.
Benzema’s current deal expires next summer but Madrid want to keep him around for an extra season, something the attacker also wanted. “If the President wants to extend my contract, my door is open,” said Benzema when asked about the matter before the recent match against Atalanta.
While Benzema’s importance within Real Madrid’s attacking system will likely decrease in the upcoming seasons if Los Blancos manage to sign star attackers like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, his experience, his leadership and even his creativity as a forward still make him a valuable asset to have on the roster.
As of now, Benzema is the undisputed leader of the offensive line, so making sure he stays at the club for two more seasons makes total sense.
