Aritz Aduriz: “Playing against Ramos was a nightmare”

In an interview with Cope, former Athletic Club striker Aritz Aduriz spoke about his relationship with Sergio Ramos, which was fierce on the playing field, but full of respect off the pitch.

“I have a lot of love and respect for Ramos,” Aduriz said of his admiration of the Real Madrid defender in the interview. “I told him many times that playing against him was a nightmare. I was sent off at the Bernabeu years ago for elbowing Diarra but the elbow was meant for Ramos. I messed up my jump just before elbowing him (laughs).”

Ramos and Aduriz definitely have a history on the field together. They’ve play together with the Spanish National Team, but have also squared off against each other on club level numerous times.

In 2017, Ramos received a red card for an aerial challenge on Aduriz at San Mames. Here’s a video of that incident:
