The initial squad list released by Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid this morning looked rather bleak. With only four defenders and four midfielders, there was no room for any other potential injuries ahead of or during the match. But, after Real Madrid Castilla’s draw with Talavera earlier today, Zidane released a new squad list with four additional players added to the list.
Pablo Ramon - a center back, Miguel Guttierrez - a left back, Antonio Blanco - a ball playing defensive midfielder, and Sergio Arribas - a shifty attacking midfielder, were all called up for first team duty. All four players have been crucial members of Raul’s Castilla set-up and each were a part of the team that won the UEFA Youth League last summer.
If there was ever an opportunity for some of these young players to make their first team debut, this weekend against Getafe may be the perfect fixture. Zidane’s squad is in desperate need of fresh legs and a general reprieve after an intense 7 day onslaught of games against Liverpool, Barcelona, and Liverpool again. Sergio Arribas has already featured in more than seven games for the first team, including minutes vs Atalanta in the Champions League knock out stages, but Guttierrez, Ramon, and Blanco will all be desperate to step onto the pitch to mark the start of their top flight career.
