A report from El Confidencial today states that Florentino Perez is looking to extend Zinedine Zidane’s contract — which currently ends in June 2022 — for a further two years, which would lock the French coach in until 2024.
Zidane has always been vocal that he doesn’t think about his future much, and that everything is day-to-day, game-to-game. He has also acknowledged numerous times that his job could be gone in an instant.
This report also states something interesting: that with the extension, Florentino will also be giving Zidane more power in signings, and in the club’s sporting vision in general.
Zidane has said before publicly that coaching Real Madrid is extremely draining. Florentino is a big fan of the manager, and would like to have security with him at the helm, and knows fully how important Zidane would be in luring french stars like Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu.
