Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema will return to France’s squad list for the 2021 UEFA Euro, according to reports published on Le Parisien and L’Equipe. Benzema himself all but confirmed the news by adding “Football player - @equipedefrance @realmadrid” to his Twitter bio and also by following the French national team on Social Media. The team also followed him back.
Benzema hasn’t played for the French national team since 2016, when coach Didier Deschamps decided to keep him away from the team following the infamous alleged blackmail scandal to Mathieu Valbuena.
This Monday, Benzema won the award for Best French Player of the 2020-2021 season. The attacker could form a very appealing and entertaining offensive line with Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, making France one of the favorites to conquer the Euro. He’s been one of Madrid’s most notable players since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, showing great leadership skills and definitely deserves to be on the list.
Benzema is 34 years old and it will be very interesting to see if he can keep his good form so that he is able to represent his country in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as well.
