Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will get an MRI this Monday which will reveal the extent of the injury he suffered on his left leg during Saturday’s home match against Osasuna.

Varane was forced to leave the game at half-time even though there were no signs indicating that he was in pain. That’s probably the main reason why coach Zidane and the rest of the staff could be optimistic about Varane’s availability for Wednesday’s crucial match against Chelsea in the return leg of the Champions League Semifinals.

If Varane can’t go, Real Madrid will desperately need Mendy to be ready to play so that Nacho can start as a right-back. Either way, Zidane will need to make a very important decision about his defensive line for that game, as Sergio Ramos will likely be available but hasn’t played a single minute in a while.

Stay tuned for news on Varane’s MRI this Monday.
