Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has recovered from the small injury he picked up after the return leg of the Champions League Semifinals against Chelsea and rejoined the squad in training this Thursday. Although Ramos did not complete the entirety of the session with his teammates and trained indoors for a while, he is expected to be available when Los Blancos face Villarreal this Saturday.
His partner in the center of the defensive line, Raphael Varane, has been training with the team for the last few days and will also be available for the decisive game. Real Madrid need the victory and then hope that Atletico de Madrid drop points against Valladolid in order to conquer the title.
Even if both Ramos and Varane are ready, Militao and Nacho have proven to be reliable enough to keep their spot given the circumstances. It’d be ideal for Ramos and Varane to play some minutes to gain confidence and momentum before returning to the starting lineup but that won’t be possible, so Militao and Nacho could very well start in what will be the last game of the 2020-2021 season for Madrid.
The match against Villarreal could be Ramos’ last game as a Real Madrid player, as he hasn’t signed and extension and reports from Spain suggest that he’s likely to leave the club as a free agent this summer.
