Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos appeared on the Einfach mal Luppen Podcast, one which he co-hosts with his brother Felix Kroos, and addressed the rumors suggesting that coach Zinedine Zidane had told the players that he is going to leave Real Madrid this summer.
“Not only was it reported here in Spain, the rumors that he had told the team that he is leaving also spread to Germany. It was a blatant lie. Zizou and I have a good relationship so no doubt that he would’ve told me. I cannot confirm it. I don’t know how this will end, I can only say that it’s always fun to work with Zidane,” said Kroos.
The midfielder also explained what went wrong this season, which ended trophy-less for Los Blancos.
“We weren’t truly consistent this season. Everyone had issues and that can also be said about us. However, we showed character this season, in my opinion. All those injuries and Covid were extreme for us, but we never gave up and fought until the end even though it wasn’t meant to be,” he said.
Real Madrid might need to make some tough decisions this summer and could be facing drastic changes on their roster. Still, Kroos believes that the club will fight for trophies no matter what happens.
“There are still many question marks about how Real Madrid will be like next season. But I can guarantee that Real Madrid will fight again, I’m sure of it. We will be back next year and fight for everything, I have no doubts, that’s what my seven-year experience here tells me,” concluded Kroos.
