Zinedine Zidane has decided to leave Real Madrid and has told the club and the players that he is resigning as the coach, according to reports from MARCA, AS, ESPN, and Fabrizio Romano.
Zidane leaves the club after only two seasons in his second tenure with Real Madrid, where he conquered a Spanish Supercup and the 2019-2020 Liga title. However, he is arguably the best coach in Real Madrid’s history alongside Miguel Muñoz, as Zidane carried Real Madrid to an historic ‘threepeat’ in the Champions League during his first three seasons as the manager.
Italian coaches Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte appear to be the favorites to replace Zidane at Real Madrid, with Conte likely having the edge now that he has left Inter Milan right after conquering a brilliant Serie A title with the Neroazzurri.
Expect Real Madrid’s statement about Zidane’s decision in the next few days, with his successor being named shortly after.
