It’s official. Real Madrid have signed David Alaba, who joins the club on a five-year deal as a free agent. Alaba, who will turn 29 years old this summer, has been a crucial player for Bayern Munich during this past decade and can play as a left-back, as a center-back and also as a midfielder.
Real Madrid C. F. has reached an agreement with David Alaba for the player to join the club for the next five seasons.
David Alaba will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player after the end of the 2021 European Championship.

Alaba’s versatility will definitely be needed next season and whoever Real Madrid’s next coach is, he will surely be happy to count on a player like him. Right now, it looks like Alaba’s most likely role could be as a central defender, given that both Sergio Ramos and Varane could leave the club this summer.
He could also compete with Mendy for a spot as a left-back, but academy player Miguel Gutierrez has shown enough promise to probably earn that chance next season.
Either way, Alaba is a great player who will be able to replace many different players when injuries or suspensions happen. His experience would also make him a quality starter wherever he’s deployed, so signing him as a free agent makes total sense.
