Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is back with the French national team and today he addressed the media on their training camp. France already were one of the favorites to conquer the 2021 UEFA Euro and their odds are even higher now that they have Benzema with the team.
Benzema talked about Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid and shared his feelings.
“He’s a great coach and on a personal level he’s the perfect man. He’s great. I’m disappointed about him leaving, but life goes on,” said Benzema.
The attacker was asked about Mbappe after training with him for the last few days.
“I don’t like to make comparisons, but he’s a young player and a genius. I had the chance to train with him and we played with one touch, he brings speed to the table and is crafty inside the box. He’s a really, really good player,” explained Benzema.
Then, most of the questions focused on his feelings about being back with France after five years.
“I’m super happy about being here and being back with France, things are great! The adaptation is perfect, we are playing well on the pitch and that’s how I like it. I can’t wait for the games to begin. This is a calm group, they won the World Cup and I feel they are winners. I just started training and the level is very high, I get along wit everybody, although at first I was spending more time with Varane. It’s going great!” said the attacker.
Benzema said that one of the main reasons why he was able to return to the squad list was the fact that he didn’t give up.
“I never stopped believing, I wouldn’t be here otherwise. I was disappointed and mentally it was tough. There were many hurdles, it’s part of my career as a player. I’ve always fought and that’s what you need to have the hope of being back. I was rewarded,” concluded Benzema.
