Real Madrid have decided to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their new coach, according to reports published on MARCA and AS. Mauricio Pochettino was Madrid’s favorite for the job but it looks like Paris Saint-Germain will ultimately keep him this summer. Ancelotti, who is currently coaching Everton, has been the chosen one ahead of other candidates like Antonio Conte or Raul.

The official announcement of Ancelotti’s return could be made official “imminently”, per those same reports, as Real Madrid want to name their new coach as soon as possible in order to start building the squad for the 2021-2022 season.

Ancelotti spent two years with Real Madrid back in 2013, winning the club’s 10th Champions League title. He will find a different Madrid team now, though, as some core players he had in 2013 like Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso or Marcelo are either gone or past their peak.

The Italian coach will have to build a different system trusting the young players currently in the squad.
