Real Madrid left-back Marcelo doesn’t want to leave the club and seems ready to stay in the Spanish capital past this summer no matter the role he has under new coach Carlo Ancelotti, according to a report published on ABC. Marcelo’s current deal expires in 2022 but the club would’ve liked to get his salary off the books, although they won’t push him out of Madrid, per that same report.

Marcelo will be expected to have a very minor role for Madrid this season, as Mendy will almost certainly be the undisputed starter at the left-back spot with academy player Miguel Gutierrez as his backup. That means that Real Madrid will likely have three different left-backs in the squad, with new signing David Alaba also an option for that spot.

This situation could ultimately force Madrid to try to find a loan deal for Miguel Gutierrez, something they’re not exploring at the moment. Gutierrez revealed that Marcelo had been giving him advise after making his debut, so Marcelo’s experience and leadership could be somewhat valuable if he stays.

If Sergio Ramos ends up leaving the club, Marcelo will be Real Madrid’s team captain the upcoming season.
