Real Madrid Femenino’s Kenti Robles played the full 90 minutes today in Mexico’s 5-1 loss to Japan at Kanseki Stadium in Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan.
The Japanese were immediately on the front foot and fired a shot off of goalkeeper Emily Alvarado’s post less than one minute into the match. Mexico had opportunities to get on the scoreboard but were unable to convert in front of goal.
Japan would finally open the scoring in the 35th minute. Mana Iwabuchi was played into the 18-yard box and took a few touches inside to create space before curling the ball around Alvarado.
Nadeshiko Japan doubled their lead less than a minute into the second half, Iwabuchi provided the pass and Mina Tanaka finished. Mexico responded quickly. Stephany Mayor delivered an excellent cross into the box and Alison Gonzalez got on the end of it to make it 2-1.
Mexico’s hope of a comeback was short-lived. Yuka Momiki scored in the 53rd minute, Momoka Kinoshita notched in the 73rd and Jun Endo made it 5-1.
Mexico is back in action against the U.S. Women’s National Team on July 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
