Spain capped off their international break with a 3-0 win over Denmark. Jorge Vilda switched from a back three to a 4-3-3 system, deploying natural center-back Laia Alexandri out on the right.

Marta Cardona started as a right winger but struggled to find as much joy has she has on previous occasions for La Furia Roja. Spain looked sluggish in general, possibly suffering from overwork and fatigue; the Barcelona core of Andrea Pereira, Mapi León, Patri Guijarro, Alexia Putellas, and Aitana Bonmatí having logged massive minutes over the course of a grueling campaign in four domestic competitions.

Barça left back Leila Ouahabi was forced to withdraw from the international team only days before due to a meniscus injury in her knee.

Nevertheless, Spain’s quality could not be denied. Aitana made it 1-0 right before the half.

A set-piece conversion from Patri Guijarro and another strike from Aitana sealed the deal against a Denmark side who defended compact and threatened better than most on the counter, but ultimately couldn’t create any real chances.

Player Ratings

Marta Cardona: 6.5/10

A much more normal day in the office for Real Madrid’s superstar. Didn’t beat her mark off-the-dribble as much as you’d expect and didn’t offer too many chances for Spain’s forwards to waste.

Was replaced by Athenea del Castillo in the 46th minute.

Olga Carmona: 6.5/10

Had a number of wayward crosses after coming on for Ona Batlle in the 58th, but redeemed herself by winning the ball back to create the third goal.
