Real Madrid have decided not to trigger their €4 million option to sign Getafe striker Hugo Duro, who spent this past season playing for Real Madrid Castilla on a loan deal and even made some appearances for the first team throughout the season.
Duro, a 21-year old prospect, scored 12 goals for Castilla this season. He didn’t lead Raul’s team as well as some analysts expected and that ultimately meant that Madrid weren’t ready to spend that much money on him.
Still, Los Blancos apparently asked Getafe to extend Duro’s loan deal for another season, something Getafe president Angel Torres decided to reject. New Getafe coach —and Real Madrid legend— Michel will likely give him some minutes during the 2021-2022 season, so Duro will have another chance to prove his worth in La Liga.
In the end, Hugo Duro wasn’t ready enough to be Madrid’s backup striker any time soon and his potential might not be that great either, so it makes sense for Madrid to let him return to his club.
