Martin Ødegaard Confirms Return to Real Madrid

Martin Ødegaard has confirmed to Norway’s TV2 that he will play for Real Madrid next season. The Norwegian captain says the club made it clear that he was part of their plans and that they want him back. Ødegaard will report for preseason duty in Madrid on July 5th.

The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti and the club’s desire to integrate youth into the squad has helped Martin Ødegaard’s Real Madrid dream become a reality. The Norwegian is unlikely to get a better chance than now to break through at the club. With the financial constraints imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, Madrid are unlikely to dip into the transfer market for a midfielder.

That area of the pitch, midfield, lacked depth last season. Both Kroos and Modric are in their 30’s, thus Ødegaard should have amble opportunity to prove himself.

After just 6 months on loan at Arsenal, Ødegaard became one of the most important players in the squad and was Arsenal’s #1 transfer target in the off-season. The Norwegian’s best performance came against West Ham United. Ødegaard took the game by the scruff of the neck, demanding the ball at all times, and ultimately led an Arsenal comeback. Mikel Arteta will now have to move to plan B as Ødegaard looks set to stay in Madrid.
