Luka Jovic is a target for AC Milan and will be pursued aggressively by the Italian club if a deal for Olivier Giroud falls apart, according to a report from Sky Sports. The Serbian has been a long time target for Milan and has been linked with a move in the past.
At Milan, Jovic would have the opportunity to link up with Ante Rebic, both of whom combined to devastating effect while playing at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018. It would not be the first time that AC Milan resurrected a career after a failed Real Madrid move. Both Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz have been recent transfers from Real Madrid that have gone on and played significant matches while developing their skillset in Milan.
The relationship between the two clubs has always been strong. Paulo Maldini is now the Sporting Director at AC Milan and has kept Real Madrid as an ally. The Spanish club would need €40M, to break even on the Jovic transfer, but a potential loan deal with a purchase option of €30M may end up satisfying all parties. Given that Luka Jovic is one of the highest earners at the club, Madrid may he willing to take a loss on his unamortized transfer fee, if it meant getting his wages off the books.
Any deal would likely come to fruition in late July or August. Eintracht Frankfurt is also said to be interested in re-purchasing Luka Jovic, but the purchase would only occur after Andre Silva had been sold. In the interim, Luka Jovic will report to preseason camp with Real Madrid on July 5th and look to impress his new coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
