After Germany lost 2 - 0 to England on Tuesday night and were eliminated from Euro 2020 in the round-of-16 phase, a report from German outlet Bild stated that Toni Kroos has decided to hang up his boots from the German National Team to focus solely on playing for Real Madrid.
Bild states that Kroos’s official announcement on the matter is ‘imminent’. Although, it’s unclear what that timeline would be if the report is true. The German midfielder is about to go on a near one-month vacation before he returns to Real Madrid’s training ground at Valdebebas to be reunited with Carlo Ancelotti — the man who welcomed Kroos from Bayern Munich in 2014.
Kroos has stated in the past that he will not play late into his 30s, and that he’d like to retire relatively early. It’s very possible that he’ll see out his contract until 2023, when he’ll be 33 years old, and retire as a footballer then, which would be great news for Real Madrid and its fans.
