Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has shut down the rumors suggesting that striker Kylian Mbappe will be on his way to Real Madrid either this summer or the next, when his contract with the French club expires.

“I will be clear. Mbappe is going to stay in Paris. We will never sell I’m and he will never leave on a free transfer. Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris,” he told L’Equipe.

Al-Khelaifi is surely hoping to see Mbappe signing a contract extension with PSG fairly soon, given that he could leave the club as a free agent in 2022 if he didn’t.

“All I can say is that things are going well, and I hope we can reach an agreement. This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital,” he added.

Rumors in the Spanish media say that Real Madrid are confident about their chances of signing Mbappe this year, but the deal would ultimately need PSG’s approval. If Mbappe keeps rejecting their offers to extend his contract though, he could join Madrid as a free agent in just 12 months, so Madrid have leverage if the attacker doesn’t sign a contract extension.
