Kylian Mbappe has told PSG that he will not renew his contract and instead will honor the remaining year on his deal, leaving as a free agent in 2022, according to a report from L’Equipe.
The decision has finally been made — Kylian Mbappe will not extend his contract with PSG. The French club are not considering selling the player this summer, thus Mbappe has decided to honor his current contract, and not force a departure, in order to maintain his positive relationship with the club and the PSG faithful. On January 1st, 2022, Kylian Mbappe will be free to negotiate a deal with any club he wishes to join.
Real Madrid have asked PSG about Mbappe through intermediaries and have been told that the French player is not for sale this summer. Mbappe has been adamant in the past about respecting PSG, “Everyone knows I have a deep connection to the club. I want to thank them because when I come here I am no one. They gave me more confidence than I deserved. I have always been grateful to the officers and the club. PSG know my feelings and know I will not do anything to damage the club,” Mbappe was quoted as saying at the end of previous domestic campaign.
Now more than ever, it seems destined that Kylian Mbappe will play for Real Madrid. With major salaries coming off the books in 2022 (Bale, Marcelo, Isco) and the pandemic coming to it’s gradual end — Madrid can afford to pay Mbappe the Galatico salary he will command.
