Karim Benzema is ready to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid which will keep him in the club until the summer of 2023, according to a report published this Sunday on Spanish newspaper ABC.
Real Madrid offered Benzema a deal set to expire in 2024 but the French attacker ultimately chose to sign a one-year extension —his current contract expires in 2022— as he wanted to make sure he had enough fuel in the tank before committing to a another year, per that same report.
Benzema will rejoin the squad in training on July 22nd and is expected to lead Real Madrid’s offense another season. Most fans and some analysts and reporters believe that Kylian Mbappe might be with the team ready to share some of the scoring burden with him and he would definitely be of great help, but if Madrid can’t complete his signing Benzema will have to do it alone once again.
The attacker is 33 years old and will be the team’s vice-captain this season, only behind Marcelo.
