Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is set to leave the club after a decade in the Spanish capital. Varane will complete his move to Manchester United this week, according to a report from MARCA’s Deputy Director Carlos Carpio. The deal is expected to be finalized around €50 million, which is what Real Madrid wanted to cash in before letting Varane leave the club.
Varane’s current deal with Madrid was set to expire in the summer of 2022 and he wasn’t interested in signing the club’s offer to extend his contract. That put Real Madrid in a very tough spot, and the club basically had to sell him this summer if they didn’t want to lose him as a free agent next summer.
Manchester United and Real Madrid will keep negotiating the transfer fee for Varane but both clubs would like to complete the deal as soon as possible so that the defender can’t begin his pre-season with United as soon as he’s back from his vacation.
