David Alaba has been officially presented as a Real Madrid player and club president Florentino Pérez gave a speech at the Austrian’s introductory ceremony. Before welcoming the player to Real Madrid, Pérez spoke in general terms about what the player’s arrival means.
He said: “Whenever great players arrive at our club, Madridistas feel special and have great hope. This is one of those days. This arrival coincides with the start of a new era, with Carlo Ancelotti as coach. We want our members and fans to be proud of the work, talent and effort of out players.”
He continued: “I want to address fans, ours and others. Football is very different without them. Thankfully, because of science and vaccines and health workers, we should have them back in the stands soon. Our fans are our main motivation. We’ve suffered and continue to suffer the effects of pandemic, which has affected our lives and football generally. Real Madrid are working with professionalism, creativity and solidarity. Nobody should have any doubt that we’ll face the future with more strength and dedication than ever to achieve the dreams of our millions of fans. We never give up at Real Madrid. We’re the club with 13 European Cups and more trophies than any other club. To make us stronger, today we welcome a great player who dreams of wearing Real Madrid’s shirt. Today, we welcome an extraordinary footballer, David Alaba.”
Pérez, as he always does at such presentations, then turned to the player to address him directly. He told the defender: “Dear David, I thank you for choosing Real Madrid to keep adding to the greatness of your career. You come from a great club, one that is a friend of ours. You achieved extraordinary things there. You’re a great legend of Bayern Munich, without a doubt. You come to Real Madrid with the greatest recognition and admiration of all football fans. This is a very special day for you, with all your family here. You now have an exciting challenge ahead of you, to win titles with Real Madrid and to form part of our club’s incredible history. You’ll have the support of our fans and you’ll feel that support at the Bernabéu, which will soon be the most modern and spectacular stadium in the world. Welcome to your new home.”
