Real Madrid are interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, whose contract with the German club expires in the summer of 2022. Madrid have even told Goretzka’s camp and inner circle of their interest in signing him next year. That’s according to a report published on German newspaper Bild, who are usually very accurate with their reports about Bayern.
Goretzka is 26 years old and fits Real Madrid’s timeline. He became an undisputed starter both for Bayern Munich and also for the German national team a few years ago and his physical presence and ability to score goals from distance and also inside the box would be extremely valuable for Madrid.
It makes sense for Madrid to think about their future with the midfield, given that Modric is 35 and Kroos is 31 years old. Los Blancos will need elite players in that line fairly soon and signing a player of Goretzka’s quality and caliber as a free agent and repeating what they just did with David Alaba would be an impressive move for the club.
Still, Bayern Munich will surely try to extend Goretzka’s contract and have even sent him different offers to do so over the past few months. However, the player hasn’t accepted that offer and has even told his agent to explore the market for next year, per that same report from Bild.
Even if Goretzka leaves Bayern, Real Madrid will likely face tough competition if they want to sign him, with other big clubs like Manchester United also interested in the midfielder, according to Bild.
