Real Madrid confirmed on their official website that attacker Karim Benzema has tested positive for Covid-19. Therefore, Benzema will be in isolation for the next couple of weeks and his presence in the first few pre-season games is now ruled out.
Benzema was scheduled to rejoin his teammates in training today but now he will need a few more weeks before he can actually start working on the pitch. This is problematic news for Madrid given Benzema’s importance within the team. Los Blancos don’t have an obvious replacement for Benzema and Jovic has been training apart from the group for the last few days, so coach Carlo Ancelotti could need to trust Mariano early on.
First of all, it’s important to wish and hope that Karim Benzema deals with Covid-19 without problems. Some members of the roster like Rodrygo or Vinicius have already been vaccinated, so hopefully the virus is not a problem this upcoming season.
