Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane completed his pre-season medical at Valdebebas this Friday morning and then went home as he will not be allowed to rejoin his teammates in training until his tests for Covid-19 come out negative, something which can take around a full day.

Varane will train with his Real Madrid teammates as soon as that happens, given that he simply will honor his current contract with Madrid until the club and Manchester United reach an agreement for his transfer, if that happens.

In that context, new Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will likely try to prove and show Varane how important of a player he would be for Los Blancos next season, although Real Madrid will ultimately need to improve their offer if they want him to extend his contract with the club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have decided to use the leverage they have in these negotiations and will wait for Madrid to accept a cheaper deal for Varane. Los Blancos want around €60 million and United are offering around €45 million + €5 million in bonuses. The British side are not in a rush and things could take longer than initially expected before this transfer saga gets solved.
