Juventus’ Massimiliano Allegri talked in press conference this Tuesday and discussed the rumors indicating that he was one of the candidates to coach Real Madrid next season. Allegri himself revealed what went on and why he is now coaching Juventus and not Madrid.

“Let’s say that yes, I was very close to signing for Real Madrid this year. I want to thank the president —Florentino Perez— for the chance he offered me, but I chose Juve because this is club which gave me a lot with a young, fun squad that can grow and develop,” said Allegri when asked about Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were rumored to be interested in both Allegri and Antonio Conte until they surprisingly announced the return of former coach Carlo Ancelotti in a decision which caught every fan and analyst off guard.

Allegri confirmed that he had an offer to coach Real Madrid but he ultimately decided to say ‘no’ and join Juventus instead.
