Zornoza was a critical part of the Levante team that finished third in the league table this season and last, featuring in all but two possible fixtures.
At age 30, Zornoza adds immediate experience as a player in her prime to supplement the potential of Maite Oroz and Teresa Abelleira. This was an expected transfer after Thaisa’s departure, replenishing Real’s midfield ranks and adding increased ball-playing qualities to the side.
What Zornoza’s exact position will be remains to be seen and depends on the formation. She isn’t a defensive midfielder in a classic sense and will probably be most comfortable operating as one part of a double pivot or as an interior at Madrid.
Wherever she plays, Zornoza should be capable of contributing from day one and stacks this squad further in a way that will be necessary if the club hope to make a run in Europe.
