Real Madrid are set to announce the extension of Karim Benzema’s contract with the club, with the new deal set to expire in the summer of 2023, according to a report published on Spanish newspaper ABC.
Benzema, who is now 33 years old, has been leading the team’s offensive line ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club. The attacker wants to stay but would be willing to leave the club before 2023 if he feels he can’t make a positive impact anymore, per that same report.
The attacker will be the team’s vice-captain this upcoming season but could be wearing the armband more often than not given that Marcelo is not expected to play many games this year.
Benzema’s leadership can’t be doubted and his presence on the pitch will keep being very valuable for Madrid as they try to improve their scoring numbers this upcoming season with more help for the French attacker.
