Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi talked to the press during Lionel Messi’s presentation with the French club and answered a few questions about Kylian Mbappe’s future. Mbappe hasn’t signed a contract extension with PSG yet and his current deal expires in 2022, so Real Madrid are hoping to get a chance to sign the attacker either this summer or the next one, when he will be a free agent.

“I think everyone knows. His future is clear. He said it himself, he wanted us to have a competitive team. Well, we have the most competitive in the world right now. So there is no excuse for him now. He can’t do anything else but stay,” said Al-Khelaifi when asked about Mbappe.

Al-Khelaifi is clearly putting some pressure on Mbappe’s shoulders because the attacker publicly said that he wanted a better project to commit to an extension. PSG have signed Donnarumma, Ramos, Achraf and Messi this summer and appear to be one of the contenders to win the next edition of the Champions League, so it’s in Al-Khelaifi’s interest to publicly say that he expects Mbappe to sign said extension.

The transfer window closes on September 2nd and Madrid are definitely hoping to receive a call from PSG accepting to negotiate Mbappe’s transfer, given that Los Blancos will not send an offer until the French club are willing to sell the player.
