Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has published a statement to deny the allegations from Jaume Llopis —a former member of the Espai Barça Commission— saying that he was involved in Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain.

“It’s impossible that I had any influence on Messi’s departure. These suggestions are completely false. I haven’t been friends with the CEO of Barcelona, Ferran Reverter, and I have met him only twice in my life, once four months ago and the other last Saturday, when the official communication about Messi had already taken place. Therefore, it’s impossible that I had any influence on Messi’s departure or in any other decision from Barcelona,” wrote Perez in the statement.

Llopis had said that Perez along with Ferran Reverter had changed Joan Laporta’s mind about Messi’s contract extension, adding that Messi’s departure “is a move that favors Florentino.”

These allegations from Llopis are not very reasonable given the different explanations given by both Joan Laporta and Lionel Messi about why Barcelona and the Argentinian player ultimately had to part ways, so Perez felt like he had to publish this statement.
