Real Madrid assign new numbers to Rodrygo, Bale and Jovic, Odegaard and Ceballos still not registered

Real Madrid have updated their squad numbers in La Liga’s official website, which shows in real time what the different clubs have registered. A single day ahead of the team’s opening match of the 2021-2022 season against Alaves, Real Madrid have not registered Odegaard, Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo.

While they definitely have time to add Ceballos and Vallejo before September 2nd given that they are not expected to play before that date, they would have to add Odegaard if they want him to feature against Alaves on Saturday.

Furthermore, Real Madrid have updated some of their squad numbers. Gareth Bale has been assigned number 18 —Asensio will keep wearing 11—, Rodrygo will wear number 21 and Jovic will wear number 16.

It might be relevant to note that 21 was the number Odegaard used during the first half of last season, so speculation and rumors about Odegaard’s potential departure from the club will increase over the next few hours, at least until Real Madrid announce their squad list for tomorrow.

Things could still change, though. Raphael Varane still appears on LaLiga’s website as a registered Real Madrid player, so it’s clear that the club hasn’t paid a lot of attention to their registration process just yet and it’s even more obvious given that, for instance, Lionel Messi has already disappeared from Barcelona’s page in La Liga.

That means that those numbers assigned and mentioned above could still change, given that Real Madrid’s official website still shows those players —also Odegaard and Ceballos— without a number.
