Real Madrid kicked off their 2021-2022 season with a convincing 1-4 win against Alaves and a solid performance from most of their players. New signing David Alaba was expected to play in the center of Madrid’s defensive line but coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to deploy him on the left flank, with Nacho and Militao in the center. It was Nacho who talked to the press and discussed the win after the game.
“I’m happy, getting this first win was our main goal. Our second half was much better than the first but anyways we’re happy with the three points. We came out really strong in the second half, it is what we wanted to do at the start of the game also, but they started really well. Our goal was the win. We started the second half strong and now we have to do the same from the get go,” said Nacho when asked about the match.
Nacho even managed to score a brilliant goal, showing his offensive instincts inside the box.
“My goal belongs more to Luka [Modric] than to myself, he’s a maestro. I’m very happy for this goal, anything that contributes to the team is always important. We have to keep it going because this s just starting,” he added.
Nacho completed a few brilliant defensive plays and Alaba was seen celebrating those particular actions. Nacho was asked about his new teammate.
“He’s a very intense player defensively. Those few plays, he celebrated them like goals! As a defender, you appreciate Alaba’s attitude,” explained Nacho.
The defender concluded his interview by discussing the team’s focus on offense.
“We’re working so that we don’t struggle as much as we did, last year we were very solid defensively. This team has a lot of potential upfront, players who are big stars of the sport. If we build a good team, goals will come,” concluded Nacho.
